Friday, September 12th, 2008 I'd like to say a short bit about The EQF Public Podium, and the media in general... This content is provided via embedding codes into web pages, here at the EQF. Though I weighed carefully, and for a long while, the pros and cons of doing this...I ultimately chose to use these resources, because they are much too useful and vital to the modern internet experience anymore. I believe in evolving, and I believe "this" site should take advantage of what resources are out there...including media resources. Not only does this add great atmosphere here, it also gives us a wonderful medium for communication and expression. I want to reiterate something stated on the EQ. Media page... Do not be alarmed if your browser gives you a warning, about any EQF web pages trying to run an ActiveX control, or some other type of script. There are no malicious scripts run here, and I only use scripts and controls sparingly...typically for doing little things, like opening up links in new browser windows and the like. My web sites are built on basic HTML, and I embed the codes for videos, etc, just like any other webmaster, or blogger out there. So, my understanding of scripts and coding, is about on par with your average internet user. I could not write or distribute an undetected virus, trojan, worm, whatever, if my life depended on it...Not without a lot of research and practice, anyway...and I have no desire what so ever, to be one of those terrible people who would do such a thing. The EQ. Foundation is a safe site...You will not pick up a virus, or other malicious infection here...However, the security features of modern web browsers are often set off by the embedded scripts, such as those to display and run media, which I have in all media sections. Typically, for example...if you are running Internet Explorer 7, you will get the tan bar up at the top of the window...telling you that it has "restricted the web page from running a script or ActiveX control that could access your computer"... When that happens, follow the directions, and click on the tan bar for other options...Then click, "Allow Blocked Content"...If you fail to do this, then you will likely end up seeing no media at all, on the pages you are visiting...which defeats the purpose of visiting the page. Some browsers, you may need to download and install a plug-in, which allows that browser to display and play media files. You will likely see an icon of some form, located where the media item is intended to display on that page...click the icon, and follow the directions...any decent web browser, will walk you through the process of finding the correct plug-in you need, and installing it. It is fairly easy...though I understand, it can be irritating to be "pushed into" installing things onto your computer. Like always, with "your" machine it is "your" call...It is up to "you", whether or not "you" want to experience the media sections here at the EQF. Again, none of the EQF sites install anything onto your computer...If you need to download and install anything, you will get that from the developer of the browser you are using. Just don't be alarmed, or turned away, by the fact that you get security alerts from your browser...that is the moral here...and understand, if you cant see anything...you either need a more modern web browser, or you need to install a plug-in which makes your browser capable of displaying the media...or, you need to take a few quick steps, to allow the media to display. Nothing complicated...Nothing threatening... Since many people already have capable browsers, this wont be an issue for many of you out there...To the more cautious, and those die hards who are clinging onto "ancient" web browsers, because "all those bells and whistles of modern browsers are security holes"...well, I trust you already know the score, and understand that you cant see the media without a capable web browser. ...Again, this is a personal call, and it is totally in "your" court... As to where the content is coming from...It will come from places like YouTube...or any place that allows for hosting of media content, and provides an embed code...However, I will avoid using non-reputable resources. You will be downloading content from other sites and servers, outside of the EQF and it's host. Potentially, they might be able to track you back as being a visitor at the EQF. Does this mean much of anything?...Well, probably not. The EQF itself, is a neutral organisation which takes no stance on any issue. Ultimately, there will be a wide range of content highlighted here...and simply visiting the EQF website, should not be "incriminating"...and motives for visiting will vary...I hope, many of the people who come here, are merely those looking for a more in depth understanding on how other minorities live and exist. I just thought I should mention this, and be explicitly up front with everyone...If you choose to avoid the media sections of this site, I will understand and respect your choice...but, media is the direction the EQF is moving in. It is your decision, whether or not you want to participate. I will always give forewarning, commonly in the message box which pops open when you hover over a link, telling you when you are about to visit a page which downloads content from outside media sources. So, I hope this explains a few things...maybe puts a few minds to rest...and helps others to experience and enjoy the full extent of this website. All the best... Steve Diamond Founder and Webmaster The EQ. Foundation Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 I've redesigned the Other People's Media section of EQ Media. I was going to do this anyway, of course. What was there at first was just something to put online, as I quickly put together that section. The new design gives this section an index, so you can easily find the latest additions...They are numbered in the order that they have been added to this archive. Just for the record, anything in the "Other People's Media" section is not content produced by the EQF...though we may choose to privately archive it, on a case by case basis. With "Other People's Media" I hope to expose a broader and more fleshed out, balance of authoritative and educated information, for the general public to witness. I hope everyone finds this new resource to be useful and valuable, in the future...and by all means, do contact us if you find valuable media, that you believe should be in this index. All the best... Steve Diamond Founder and Webmaster The EQ. Foundation Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 I am very pleased to announce the grand opening of our new, EQ Media section. EQ Media is now operational, and open to the public. In the future, this is where you will be able to go and view all official EQ Media productions, as well as content which the EQ. Foundation has officially featured. If you are another MAA (boylover or girl-lover) who also creates media content meant for the general public, and you would like for the EQ. Foundation to host your media, please feel free to contact the EQ. Foundation to make arrangements. Enquiries for involvement and suggestions, in the creation of official EQ Media content, are also welcome. All contributors are credited, in the final media production. I would also like to make clear, that we have an "open door" policy, regarding suggestions as to what content gets featured in our Other People's Media section. If you find something of interest to this project, by all means, send us a message. All the best... Steve Diamond Founder and Webmaster The EQ. Foundation Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 You can't keep a good man down!... Do a Google web search for "Atheist Boylover"...or "Steve Diamond Boylover"...and guess who shows up on top...again?!!!! I am so happy to announce, that the trash and riff raff (garbage placed at my former blogs) which has been showing up in searches of this kind, will no longer impede the people from finding me!!! YAY!!! Yahoo! is a bit more demanding, as you have to go into the advanced search, and do a search for the exact phrases...like, "The Life and Times of an Atheist Boylover"... ...but still...there I am! YAY!!! We are definitely making a comeback...strong and hard... All the best... Steve Diamond Founder and Webmaster The EQ. Foundation Wednesday, December 26th, 2007 So... ...There is a bit of a new look...Do you like it? It is like I was saying all along...What has previously existed of the EQ. Foundation, has been a "prototype". Out of necessity, I have been using old page header graphics, mixed with new graphics...but, this felt jumbled...and very unprofessional. This is not a geocities or yahoo website, after all...nor is it a blogspot blog...I have a much higher standard for this site, now...and I want that to be starkly clear in the presentation. I hope I've succeeded... Anyway...I also hope everyone had a good, holiday season...and I'm looking forward to the new year...and getting the EQF into (and ISD back into) the major search engines...It's time to make some noise... All the best... Steve Diamond Founder and Webmaster The EQ. Foundation Monday, December 03, 2007 Good morning!... Does anyone have any opinions on Rocky and my incorporating audio messages into this web site? ...Like it?...Don't like it?...Don't care?...To paranoid to click on a scary looking ogg file?... I think it is cool, but I'm wondering about what visitors have to say. There are never going to be full length shows (podcasts) hosted here at NFS, that would eat up to much bandwidth I think, and I'd rather just keep the files here small, while putting more substantial media onto another dependable host...like Libsyn... I'm thinking this would be the most cost effective for me...I can always just link to my files there. ...Which brings up one other matter... I intend on utilizing other resources, so it is important to understand (and I will make this very clearly known, wherever it occurs) that when you click on some types of links they will instruct your browser to download a file from another server... I also intend on having an area, with embedded files from YouTube...It will be it's own, unique page/site, and I'll put up an entry page, with a forewarning before going forward. So, that's it...Nothing to deep to share, today...but before I go, you can catch a small bit I wrote about the history of Rocky, here... ...oh yeah...and, yes... ...Shhhhhhhhh!!!...Don't tell anyone else, because I'm pretty sure there's a group of moral imperialists out there who will burst a blood vessel or three, upon learning that another branch of my "evil empire" has returned to the internet... Have pity, and let's keep this our little secret for the time being...lest they choke to death on their own hate... ...at least until the official opening. ...The Expressions Forum is back...(yay!!!) All the best... Steve Diamond Founder and Webmaster The EQ. Foundation Monday, October 22, 2007 Greetings and salutations! It has been a long time since I have actively been the webmaster of a site. I am looking forward to this. My first address to you, my dear readers, is just an attempt to answer a couple of questions and tell you where things stand. 1) The first issue...I've finally made the move and acquired stable hosting. This is something I have avoided for years, but it has become clear that it is in the better interest of these online resources to just find a trustworthy host and be done with the hassles. I am pleased to announce the new home of The EQ. Foundation to be NearlyFreeSpeech.net. Thank you, NFS for your strong stance on free expression online. May this be a long, friendly and productive union. 2) If you had the opportunity to take a look at what was online, at the EQF's previous stop along it's journey, you may be looking around and wondering "what happened to all of the sections that are supposed to be opening up?"... The main page is much more light on graphics. I took them down, because most of these resources are not ready to go live, and I saw no reason for people to be burning up bandwidth downloading them, when there were no corresponding pages to visit. Rest assured however, I have "broken ground" on most of these sections and they will materialize. It is an awful lot of work for one person, however. This will take time. 3) There will be audio! I am not certain how much, but I will have an audio project...maybe a video project as well, in the future. Whether this will remain hosted here at NFS, depends on how much it costs. The official audio file format for the EQF is OGG. I am not planning on doing MP3s. This is mainly because most of the audio content is going to be speech, and OGG is a better format for this. It makes a substantially smaller file, while retaining quality. Since I am footing the bandwidth bills...I'm making this rule... If you don't have an OGG player, go download WinAmp. This is one of the best media players out there. It is free. It is simple to listen to audio content made available on this site. Simply click the link. A "warning" box may pop open. Simply choose "open". This should cause your primary OGG player to open and begin playing the file. Alternatively, you can click on "save" and save the file to a place on your hard drive, and listen to it from there. Be aware of the copyright on all EQF content! You can keep a copy and listen as much as you like, but you are forbidden to redistribute this content or to make any form of derivative projects from it, without the explicit permission of the EQF in writing. 4) I will eventually be looking into what options are available regarding RSS (really simple syndication), so that the option to subscribe to "EQ. Audio" content might be available. I make no promises, though. 5) For the most part, I am focused on rebuilding what was my former blog, "In Self Defense...The life and times of an atheist boylover". This is a huge project in itself. You have no idea how much content was there (both published and unpublished)...or how much I have written since leaving blogspot. It seems daunting at times...but, I've made a dent... ;-) I plan on bringing a few other blog projects back...like "The Expressions Forum". There was very little content there, and I've already got the foundation for a page set up. I just need to configure it so that I am happy with it. I will try to salt these smaller projects into the process, so that they don't have to wait several months, until I am done reconstituting ISD. ...and keep in mind, a lot of what is being recreated here will be blogs turned web pages. In some sort of way, much of this content will still be treated like a blog...complete with a comments and feedback system. I am actually more at home with a web page, but it feels strange to put up some of the shorter pieces I've written, onto their own pages. On a blog, a one or two line post fits in perfectly. On a website, it makes you feel like you are wasting a page if you don't write more. Oh well...It's not important. I'm just rambling about that. 6) Good things will be happening. The mainstream public is very welcome to read these resources and interact. I do not just expect that you behave respectfully towards everyone here however...I demand it. If you can not follow this simple rule, then you are not welcome here and you need to leave. 7) I anticipate accepting content for submission into a more general, "community" archive. So, if you are an author, or at least own the copyright to content you would like to have online, there may be a free place for you here, so long as said content is relevant to the EQF's mission. You will retain all rights to your content, of course. 8) As you might be able to figure, I had larger visions when I originally started the EQF. This included forming some type of partnership, or committee with established others who are interested in administrating the necessities of this foundation...and making decisions surrounding it's projects, associations, etc... There might be some opening for an additional webmaster, or somebody with more advanced technical skills...who knows? I personally am a webmaster with humble, but adequate, skills...so, I welcome the efforts of those who are more advanced at this than myself. So...I'm not going to push this issue hard, but I am putting it out there. I hope something eventually materializes, but if not...that is okay too. I believe this concludes all the business issues currently on the table. Have a wonderful day. Peace be with you! Steve Diamond Founder and Webmaster The EQ. Foundation ![]() Back to the EQ.
